Popular Film Critic and Writer who has published 23 books on cinema, 2 books on Social and Science subjects, and 4 books on Veterinary Science. I am a recipient of 20 awards including the National and Kerala State Film Awards for my literary works.
Born in an aristocratic family (Chaathakudath) as the fourth son of C.S.Manickan and C.K.Lakshmikutty on 08 March 1951. I have 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
My lower primary education was at Government Lower Primary School, Vallachira, and high school study conducted at C.N.N. Boy’s High School, Cherpu. For the Pre-Degree education joined at Sree Sankara College, Kalady during 1966 – 1968. As a casual student, I studied 6 months at Government Brennan College, Thalassery, Kannur district in 1969.
After completion of Pre-degree education, I joined at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Mannuthy for a B.V.Sc degree course in 1969. Completed 4 years course of B.V.Sc and came out of college in 1974. I secured the B.V.Sc degree with First class with the First rank. Then I was undergone 1-year Pre-service training. After successful completion of training, I was posted as a Veterinary Surgeon at Veterinary Dispensary, Chemanchery, Kozhikode district on 22.02.1975. Here I worked for 1¼ years and then transferred and joined at Veterinary Dispensary, Elanad, Thrissur on 02.04.1976.
While working at Veterinary Dispensary, Elanad and I was selected for ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), New Delhi, Junior Fellowship and I joined at Veterinary College, Mannuthy for my P.G.study (M.V.Sc) in Pharmacology on 06.12. 1976. My post-graduate program was over in 1978.
I joined at Veterinary College as a Junior Instructor in Pharmacology and Toxicology department on 21.12.1978. In 1979 he was transferred to IAT (Institute of Agricultural Technology), Tavanur, Malappuram district, and I worked here for about 6 years and again transferred to Veterinary College, Mannuthy. While working at Veterinary College I has been involved in Student union activities and various other socio-cultural programs. After completion of 32 years of meritorious service, I retired from service on 7 March 2011.
Being a student of school and colleges I have been actively participated in dramatic performances and have acted in many dramas and one-act plays. I was selected as the Best actor (Best actor in the female role) consecutively for 4 years (1970 – 1974) during my undergraduate study. The awards retained during my P.G studies also (1976 – 78). I was a member of the Orchestra group of the college.
Female role in Drama
The first literary work of my was published in a local magazine - ‘Swarangal Weekly’ from Thrissur on 02.06.1967. It was an article about the famous actress Sarada. Thereafter I published many articles (more than 500) on Cinema, Science, and Social relevance in various Malayalam magazines.
I have been associated with the activities of various socio-cultural organizations in and around Thrissur and the state level. This includes Deseeya Sasthara Vedi, Cinevisions Thrissur, Indo-Arab Film Friendship, Samskarika Sadasu Thrissur, International Film Festival of Thrissur Etc.
I acted as a General Council Member of Kerala State Chalachithra Academy, Thiruvanathapuram 2001 – 2003 and Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara 2001 - 2004. I also worked as Managing Council Member of Jawahar Balabhavan, Thrissur 2012 - 2017 and Advisory Board Member of Bhakthapriya monthly, the publication of Guruvayur Devaswam 2012 - 2017.
My wife, A.D.Santhi is a native of Feroke, Kozhikode. My daughter Aparna Naveen working as Manager, Federal Bank and son Dr.Avinash Aravind has completed his M.B.B.S course and doing P.G. studies (Surgery) at Medical College, Kozhikode. Aparna’s husband is Dr.Naveen Mohan working as Scientist, Colgate Palmolive, London (Now at Kozhikode). My grand daughter – Diya Naveen is 6 years old baby.
